Pedagogy, Andragogy and Heutagogy

Three of the biggest ideas to enter the field of education and learning are pedagogy, andragogy and heutagogy.

Predominantly, pedagogy refers the practice of teaching, particularly as it relates to children.

Andragogy was developed to create a framework for adult learners, as researchers and practitioners identified that the motivators for adult learners approach learning in a different way to children.

Heutagogy relates to the study of leaners who are self-determined by exploring autonomy, capability and self-reflection.

In reality, learning design and resource development should actively and critically combine the relevant approached from pedagogy, andragogy and heutagogy as they relate to the learner.
